TPACK model

The TPACK model stands for Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge. It's a framework used in education to understand the complex interactions between technology, pedagogy (teaching methods), and subject matter content knowledge.

Importance:

1. Integration of Technology: TPACK emphasizes the seamless integration of technology into teaching practices, ensuring that technology enhances learning outcomes.

2. Effective Teaching: It helps educators design more effective teaching strategies by considering how technology can support content delivery and pedagogical approaches.

3. Adaptability: TPACK encourages educators to adapt their teaching methods and use of technology based on the specific content they are teaching and the needs of their students.

4. Teacher Professional Development: It serves as a guide for teacher professional development, helping educators develop the necessary skills and knowledge to effectively integrate technology into their teaching.

Characteristics:

1. Interdisciplinary: TPACK requires understanding and integration of three domains: technology, pedagogy, and content knowledge.

2. Dynamic: The model recognizes that the relationships between these domains are dynamic and constantly evolving.

3. Contextual: TPACK is highly contextual, meaning that effective integration of technology depends on the specific teaching context, including the subject matter being taught and the characteristics of the students.

4. Reflective: Successful implementation of TPACK requires ongoing reflection and evaluation of teaching practices to ensure that technology is being used in meaningful and effective ways.

5. Collaborative: TPACK encourages collaboration among educators, technologists, and content specialists to develop innovative teaching practices that leverage technology effectively.

Framework for the teachers to develop lesson plans using technology

 Lesson Plan: 1

Teacher: Kinley Dema

Subject: Science

Class: IV

Time: 45 minutes

Teaching Strategy: Place-based learning

TLM: Teaching learning materials: video links, images, PPT link, textbook, Padlet, quizizz chart paper, erasers, paper, stone, crayon, leave, and ring.

ICT model: TPACK model

Previous knowledge: Students should already know about

  • Materials we use every day

  • Things are made of different materials

  • Natural and human-made things

Lesson objective: At the end of the lesson children will be able to:

  1. differentiate between degradable and non-degradable waste with examples after the teacher’s explanation

  1. write the importance of separating waste into degradable and non-degradable waste without the help of peers

  2. explore the environmental impact of waste correctly.

Lesson introduction(5 minutes)

Teacher: Alligator……alligator

 Students: Yes, educator

Greetings to the class,

Ask how they are doing today.

Teacher will ask the students,

  1. What do you think happens to the trash you throw away?

  2. When do you throw away the things?

Students will be given 2 minutes to discuss the question with their face partner.

Two to three volunteers will be asked to share what they have discussed.

After that, students should guess the topic.

General instruction

  •   Instruct them that they are going to learn about degradable and nondegradable waste.

  • For a better understanding of the concepts, tell them that they will go outside to observe the waste in the waste bins which are segregated into degradable and nondegradable waste, and then learn about impacts.

  • Share with them that after the exploration, they will come back to the classroom and do a quiz in groups

  •  Let them know that the lesson will be concluded with a worksheet and a brief summary of the lesson.

Lesson development

Teacher will explain the concept of waste, along with two types of waste; degradable and nondegradable waste using a power point. Ppt

Outdoor learning

Before going outside for the learning, tell them the dos and don’ts

  • Instruct students to stay in group instead of wandering around.

  •  Instruct them to walk carefully to avoid injuries and disturbances to other friends.

  • Tell them to pay attention when explaining the concept.

  •  After instructing them about the dos and don’ts, take students near the waste bin outside.

  • Then explain the degradable and non-degradable in detail using the help of bin.

  •  When they go back to the classroom after the explanation, instruct them to observe the surroundings carefully.

After reaching back to classroom

Activity(group work)

  •  Divide the students into 4 groups

  •  Let 2 groups discuss and write down the impacts of waste on humans and other 2 groups on the impacts of waste on the environment.

  •  For this activity, they will get 3 minutes to complete.

Monitoring:

  •  Walk around the classroom to check the students’ participation and provide guidance if necessary.
